i have discovered my love, well maybe not love but my liking for my blog. it's almost a personal blog because few people actually bother reading it. especially with my long hiatus, so perhaps going on a hiatus was a good choice.
it's time for a journey back in time.
gb on monday was great. rededication. shirim has been troubling me, even before june camp, though with june camp there was a greater sense of urgency as to whether im staying, or im not. and ive been praying about it, whether i should continue shirim, since my coordination for piping is simply horrible and i dont know my purpose for staying in shirim [actually even till now, i dont know what my purpose is. but i'll discover it eventually i suppose]. and my decision was made on monday. im staying. although im not going to be playing for gbday [i was moping over it while talking to waiian actually but after that i decided that], i shall practice hard and next year hopefully i will play the pipes. yes, i'll go for shirim because i want to, not because i have to. i was quite pleased with my decision because the thought of quitting/ponning shirim never crossed my mind. i must do as i say. gambatte (: i hope this wont be a short-lived thing and i start to regret my decision. but a commitment is a commitment is it not?
backtrack till saturday. met at siyings house in the morning for acp and when i reached, she and jan were working on her lj skin [which pokes fun at the world cup and so i rawr at her]. it was productive and we managed to film everything. and i bought like 4 jack and jill chips because i wanted to get either england/ spain/ germany's shirt thing. ended up getting argentina, netherlands, ghana and one more which i have forgotten [just shows how insignificant it is]. gave siying the ghana one and the other one which i cant remember, since she loves ghana to bits lol. went for chinese pt meeting at sufen's house. was wowing at her manga collection. and she scares me okay, she has almost everything done, and made me feel like a complete slacker. oh well. she's sufen. im peiling.
then comes the interesting part. went out with the guys after ymeeting. we were at orchard mrt on our way back and i was just talking to brandon while the rest were in front of us. and tada. this was what happened.
[some woman walks up]
woman to brandon: hey, im from ___ [i forgot the name] modelling agency. we're looking from part-time male models. can you give me your contact number?
[brandon looks around, bewildered and i try not to laugh]
brandon: uh no thanks. [looks at me] i think we're in a hurry, yeah.
woman: you can just leave your contact number and we'll get back to you.
brandon: thanks for your offer but really no.
woman: come on, im sure your girlfriend wont mind, right? [she looks at me]
[we are shocked and i am thoroughly amused. char and the others start laughing]
me: uh im just his friend. and nope of course i dont mind, i can give you his number if you want. [takes out my phone]
woman: well, if that's the case, okay, thanks.
brandon: no way, you're not going to do that.
[he pleads with me and i, being every so nice decided to help him.]
me: [uses this irritating tone] no actually i do mind. of course. sorry we really need to go.
[we walk off and i burst out laughing. and the rest start being irritating.]
it was entertaining. his expressions were classic. and to quote huiwen, "you're too polite. when people approach you just walk away la!" and during dinner we prankcalled him using mars temporary phone and pretended to be the modelling agency woman.
"uh yeah, im brandon. why?" "what?!" "oh no, actually im not brandon. i think you've got the wrong number." his lying skills = zero.
rewind time all the way until camp/retreat june 2006. you can skip this whole part. it's for memory's sake actually. brief outline. handwritten some but my hand gets tired easily.
talks/ messages were awesome. i realised how brilliant pnick is as a speaker. he's charismatic and while injecting some humour into his messages, he makes sure you do not miss out on the key points. and he really brings up a lot of things that just makes you call "woah" because it hits the nail right on the head and everything you've been trying to supress just resurfaces. the questions he asked were simple and straightforward, and although i think all of us thought about those questions at one point in time, it struck hard this time round. the things he brought up, it was just woah. even for someone who was far away, my attention was not diverted.
accomodation. i think the huts were really cool! though because there was a shortage of huts even though we booked everything [thanks to gill's mum for managing to get us a huge discount], the yls ended up sleeping in the conference room and the camp comm had to share beds/ huts. but it was fun. though liwen kicked me. rawr.
games. haha sentosa is a great place to organise games. since it's a bigger area as compared to pasir ris or east coast and the beaches there are clean and nice. (: manmade beaches. and i still love the long suspension bridge which leads to the southernmost tip of SEA [and jumping down from it =D]. and water activites and land games were cool. recreation i/cs are ingenious.
make your move. the highlight of the whole camp i guess. we planned it over lunch and dinner. technically it's underground church with a twist. making your choice as to which is true/ false was difficult according to the others. apparently many were deceived by me because they thought i would never be the liar. big mistake. discernment. how one wrong move leads to another. and there are chances to get back on track, but it all depends on how much you're wiling to listen, and most importantly believe it. we had a rather complicated system and pattern which all of us followed. guess who thought of it? the ever so brilliant me. x)
worship. by far the best worship experience. many were touched. hands were raised. tears came. knees buckled. and most importantly, hearts were changed- the whole attitude and passion for Him can be seen from the marked difference during fellowship/ service or actually, in small ways [the way they speak, act etc]. the prescence of God could be felt, very strongly. and the flame that had died out over time was rekindled. it's time for revival. and all of us sensed it. it did hit me and i was touched, but i was blocking myself off.
talkingtoenails. thanks to you guys for being so enthusiastic and supportive etc. and most importantly, being such a fun-loving group. koi cracks corny jokes. but yeah sorry my lousy led qts and having to drag brandon over to take you guys for qt. wasnt in the right frame of mind. though i hope you guys learnt something from it. though thank goodness mars and ren passed us the qt materials like in february or something, so i was able to jot down some things. efficient people la.
camp comm. smile peiling club. ive so much to say i shall leave it till some other time. 5 words: you guys made camp complete. thanks so much.
i have a feeling i left out a lot of main points. i shall edit it, if i ever get down to it.
and ive left out quite a few key events. gbjunecamp. worshipminmeeting. comm meeting. and other interesting happenings.
oh and i got my braces yesterday. though drquake hasnt put the bottom one. thank goodness, if not the pain would have been worse. and yesterday i was still showing my sister how unpainful it was, and today it started to hurt. attempted to blow the pipes but was simply unable to grip the mouthpiece, and when i tried to bite it, it hurt like crazy and i'll have to stop playing halfway. but the pain should be gone by wednesday. so pipes, here i come to practice hard. (: seeing drquake again on august 18, though i have no idea what he's going to do then. but i love my dentist. he's so funny, and very nice. nice family dentist. he's been giving discounts to my family [sister- braces. mum- filling. operation and some others. all of us- scaling and polishing] but we've gone to him for >10 years.
and i cant believe i nearly forgot this: world cup! worldcup2006 germany was full of shocks. england, spain, germany. england, they just werent playing up-to-standard, though they deserved to win the match against portugal, penalties, again, rawr. [jen cried when england lost. diehard england fan la. and unclefred is so funny, calling up and saying "hey, are you guys alright?" after the match] spain, they have young players and loads of potential, so worldcup2010 and euro2008. germany, my newfound favourite, didnt expect them to get so far despite all the spectulations and stuff because i didnt believe them, but they're a great team. and podolski- best young player. klose- golden shoe.
i dont have scv so went over to jess/jons house to watch with some of the guys. had a lot of fun screaming and jumping on the sofas and throwing pillows at the television and playing cards during halftime etc. and most importantly enjoying the matches, even when i didnt like the teams. to quote jon "people who really love soccer for what it is will not bet, because it destroys the spirit of soccer". when channel5 [finally] showed the worldcup, they came over! hoho. worldcup2006 was awesome-mer with those crazy people.
i spent a couple of days typing this whole entry out because i didnt do it all at one go. a very brainless post since it's so peiling's day/week/month- orientated. but at this point in time, brainless posts are the easiest since they dont require anything at all.
